EARTH DAY 2010
April 22, 2010 was the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and the Central Labrador Environmental Action Network celebrated with its annual Earth Day Walk.
The inclement weather did not deter 12 hardy individuals who braved the cold rain and sleet to walk for environmental awareness. Local primary school children were to attend as well, but the school decided to err on the side of caution and kept the children out of the rain. Those that did attend walked from the Melville Public Library to CLEAN’s office in the Northstar building.
The local community was in full support of the walk, even if they did not face the elements and walk. People honked their horns in approval as the group marched down Hamilton River Road and 3 local government representatives showed their support by walking. Northmart and the Terrington CO-OP donated juiceboxes and fruit trays for the children to enjoy after the walk.
After the walk the attendees enjoyed the healthy snacks that were donated. CLEAN then brought the remaining unopened fruit trays to the Labrador Friendship Centre and the remaining juiceboxes to the Eat Smart program at Peacock Primary School.
CLEAN would like to thank all those who helped make the walk a success this year including Northmart, the Terrington CO-OP, and the RCMP for providing an escort for the walk. Here’s hoping next year is even better!
