ACAP Background

ACAP Background

CLEAN is part of the Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) funded through Environment Canada. Here are some facts about ACAP.
• Formed in April 1991 and funded by a partnership between communities and Environment Canada, along with various other partners in communities across the Atlantic provinces .
• The Central Labrador Environmental Action Network (CLEAN) is the latest ACAP group to be established and will be focused on the watershed in the Upper Lake Melville region.
• Focuses on the growing understanding that economies the world over depend on a healthy environment.
• Communities are responsible for generating solutions to environmental problems.
• Improving environmental quality will help to sustain long-term economic viability (since most local economies are linked either directly or indirectly to a healthy environment).
• Enthusiasm for the program has been high, and there has been no shortage of community participation.
